Jeddah, 5 November 2025 – The Regional Workshop on Improving Fisheries Statistics and Their Use in Stock Assessment and Management in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden concluded successfully on Wednesday 5 November 2025 at the headquarters of the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The three-day workshop, organized and led by PERSGA under the framework of the Sustainable Fisheries Management Project (SFISH) with the financial support of the World Bank, brought together 25 regional experts from PERSGA member countries. Participants represented national authorities responsible for fisheries management, alongside national consultants and project coordinators involved in SFISH implementation.

The workshop aimed to strengthen technical capacities in the collection, analysis, and utilization of fisheries statistics to support active stock assessment and management. It also provided a valuable platform for sharing experiences and best practices, promoting the sustainable use and development of fishery resources. These e orts contribute directly to enhancing food security and supporting sustainable economic growth across the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region.

Throughout the sessions, participants reviewed and discussed technical papers and presentations addressing challenges related to fisheries data collection and management systems. They explored ways to improve data quality and reliability, enhance national monitoring mechanisms, and increase the active use of data in estimating fish stocks and preparing national and regional assessment reports.

The workshop concluded with a shared commitment among participants to continue their collaboration under the SFISH Project, advancing regional e orts toward sustainable fisheries management and strengthening evidence-based decision-making in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region.
